Overview

The Carrier Procurement Manager of LTL will dedicate their efforts to four main areas: diversifying our carrier network, establishing and enhancing our strategic carrier partnerships, rate negotiations and bid management, and carrier accountability. 

This manager must possess a strong understanding of the LTL industry, be forward thinking and have the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will drive strategic direction with EL’s carrier base to help the company meet it’s business objectives.

This individual will work closely with the Vice President of Brokerage Services, Vice President of SCM, and multiple division heads within England Logistics.

Responsibilities

Key operational responsibilities

  • LTL blanket rate management and development
  • Annual bid management and strategy
  • Spot market lane support
  • Quarterly or as needed market testing, benchmarking, and quote requests
  • Carrier contracting (negotiation on rates, accessorials and terms)
  • Analysis of bids
  • Identify improvement opportunities on current clients
  • Carrier management/compliance (scorecards, QBR’s)

Key Success Measures

  • Diversity of carrier base (number of carriers contracted and participating)
  • EL rates compared to benchmarking
  • Carrier Compliance metrics
  • Timely carrier scorecard creation and review
  • Business awarded compared to quotes

Qualifications

  • Some travel will be required.
  • 5+ years in the transportation industry, preferably in a carrier management role
  • Proven ability to analyze data while establishing initiatives.
  • High level of urgency with ability to re-prioritize to meet demands.
  • Strong Interpersonal, organization, analytical skills, as well as verbal & written.
  • Design and drive metrics to measure and monitor carrier performance and cost.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to provide visibility of transportation flows. Identify and communicate risk and develop risk mitigation solutions.
  • Contribute strategic insights on network design and improvements. Assist in driving enhancements to the network and processes.
  • Work with cross functional teams to drive overall network performance.
