Overview

The Procurement and Analytics Manager is an independent contributor role that will work closely with the SLC Procurement Manager, Director of Solutions, account management and sales teams, internal departments, and customers on existing business and new opportunities. This well-experienced procurement manager will impact our business by leading our strategic carrier relationships and procurement strategies.

Responsibilities

1. Transportation Procurement (LTL, FTL, and some Intermodal, Specialized, Ocean)

  • Annual bids
  • Spot market lane support
  • Quarterly and as needed market testing, benchmarking, requests for quotation
  • Accessorial charges, fuel programs, etc.
  • Support in mitigating and offsetting rate increase requests
  • Mathematical analysis of bids, pricing of lanes
  • Carrier contracting
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in customer-specific pricing

2. Carrier relationship management facilitation with SLC Procurement Manager

  • Business reviews
  • Scorecards
  • Issue resolution
  • Corrective action

3. Manage rates in transportation management systems (TMS)

  • Load rates into TMS
  • Test rates in TMS and freight bill audit and payment system
  • Work with Information Technology team to streamline rate loading process and develop best practices
  • Manage broadcast bidding carriers

4. Analytics and reporting

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute reports from various systems to support operation and customers
  • Share industry information and best practices internally and with customers
  • Manage freight claims process
  • Data mining, analysis, and supply chain engineering experience, a plus

Qualifications

  • 5+ years as a multimodal transportation buyer with strong ability to analyze rates
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Customer-facing presentation and communication
  • Less than truckload industry connections and purchasing experience
  • Well-versed in current LTL industry rate structures and tools (SMC, APIs, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or other related field
  • Ocean, parcel, air freight, flatbed, and/or refrigerated experience, a plus
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Access or other database related skills, a plus
